Sandi Baggett, San Mar Stables, Poolesville MD
Sandi Baggett was first introduced to a pony at her grandfather’s farm in VA at the age of 2. By the time she was 6, she had become the only one in her family to pursue her love of horses.
Throughout the years, Sandi continued to ride, with the help of friends, but it wasn’t until college where she received her first formal lessons. While going to school and working in the Baltimore area, this is also where she began to ‘fine-tune’ her equestrian training.
With the help and encouragement of her family, Sandi purchased her current farm in Poolesville- an open lot at the time. She built her house, barn and outdoor ring, and then eventually added an indoor arena after deciding to leave her previous career as a Speech Pathologist to start her new full-time career with horses. Sandi is an accomplished event and dressage rider and trainer, who has worked and ridden with many top level riders like Karen O’Connor, Bruce Davidson, and others through the years.
Since the birth of her daughter six years ago, she has been focusing her attention on family, lessons, coaching her students at shows, and managing a successful boarding and training facility. You can even find her in the show ring with her ‘animal-crazed’ daughter in leadline classes!
“H.C. Summers has been taking care of me since San Mar Stables opened its doors in 1987. The guys would bring me buckets of Mares Match for my orphaned foal at a moments’ notice when I would run out!”
When asked about her current feeding program, Sandi replied, “I’ve always fed Purina. And because they guarantee each bag…that just says a lot about the company.”
